Eclipse Season: A Sacred Pause

This September we have not just one, but two powerful celestial events: a lunar eclipse on the 7th, and a solar eclipse on the 21st. In the Vedic tradition, eclipses are for turning inward, honoring the unseen, and letting the “shadow” teach us what the light alone cannot reveal. Yes, THAT is why you feel this way.

In between these two events is the time to honor our ancestors (Pitru Paksha). I look forward to this practice every year. The eclipses can be so un-grounding, but ancestor practice is a sweet, self-compassionate and transformational time. More on this on Monday.

September 7: Total Lunar Eclipse

This lunar eclipse happens in the sign of Aquarius. During a lunar eclipse, the Moon (our mind and emotions) is shadowed. And this one is full of energy! So, you may feel stirred, sensitive, a little unsettled or have a whole lotta drama. Don’t buy into it!

The moon is closer to the Earth, and this can bring a mind that jumps around all over the place. Lean into your practice and know that these feelings and thoughts will pass and then you will see clearly again. Instead of resisting, let this be a chance to rest, meditate, and listen inwardly.

Some gentle practices:

  • Chanting or prayer
  • A cleansing bath or time by water
  • Offering gratitude to ancestors
  • Quiet reflection, journaling or simply sitting in silence

Avoid big decisions or major commitments. This is about clearing space, not filling it.
